Our client is a well-established and successful Boutique Asset Management company with a reputation for superior investment performance. Due to the growth of their business, they now have an opportunity for an additional resource to add support to a very experienced Senior Equity Analyst who covers a wide range of stocks and sectors including Global stocks. This role would suit a recently qualified CA(SA) CFA, Actuary or suitably qualified individual with a finance degree and one or two years of working experience in finance and investments who can demonstrate a strong technical passion for the financial markets. The role requires the incumbent to build financial models, analyzes financial statements, identifies investment opportunities, and provides “buy, sell, or hold” recommendations to portfolio managers/clients, requiring deep sector knowledge, strong analytical skills, and communication to support investment decisions and portfolio growth. Key tasks include financial modeling, company valuation, industry research, attending calls, and presenting findings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Analysis: Analyze financial statements, conduct valuation, and develop complex earnings/financial models.
  • Research: Perform in-depth sector and company research, monitor market trends, news (SENS), and economic variables.
  • Investment Recommendations: Formulate and present “buy, sell, or hold” recommendations with justifications.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Interact with company management, industry experts, competitors, and internal investment teams.
  • Reporting: Prepare detailed investment reports, research notes, and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Portfolio Support: Assist portfolio managers with decision-making and allocation, potentially taking on assistant portfolio management duties.

Typical Work Environment

  • Works for buy-side (asset managers) or sell-side (brokerages) firms, alternatively in the investment industry
  • Involves early mornings to catch global market news and wire services.
