Our client is a dynamic growing Boutique DFM business that now needs an additional Investment Specialist to play a pro-active role in supporting the Head of Client Services to manage the broad range of the firm’s client relationships. The Investment Specialist shall be responsible for designated client relationships as well as being accountable for the delivery of written communications to clients. As part of the Client Services team, the Investment Specialist will also
assist with delivery of in person and virtual events, and the development and communication of product
knowledge. With your expertise, experience, and track-record, you shall embody the values and culture of our
client-centric firm.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the area of client services within the investment industry and
has a track record of building relationships with key clients and communicating technical concepts to financial
advisers. They would have a pro-active and dynamic approach to building long term partnerships with our
clients, a strategic and structured approach to managing client relationships, and the ability to approach
business from a passionate, innovative, and deeply considered point of view.
Objectives of this Role
Responsible for the day-to-day delivery and management of all the Client Service activities for your
designated clients, as well as assisting the rest of the Client Service team with activities on other clients.
Contribute to client communications and client events.
Provide input on the strategy for all the client service functions of the firms.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities
The role will form part of the client service team and will report to the Head of Client Service. This is a client facing
role. The candidate will be responsible for developing, managing, and supporting client relationships. The
candidate will be expected to work closely with the clients to ensure they have an in depth understanding of
their businesses to be able to assist the client in the most effective manner. Due to clients being regional, the
candidate will be required to travel within South Africa from time to time.
The responsibilities can be separated into core parts, namely client interaction, client service administration
and client communications.
Client interaction
Manage relationships with clients to ensure that they are satisfied with all the services we provide.
Be the primary point of contact for an assigned portfolio of clients and manage quarterly “Investment
Committee” meetings with these clients.
Assist clients with any requests or queries. These will include but are not limited to:
o Investment Portfolio reviews
o Portfolio performance queries
o General investment market views
o General industry research
Manage delivery of client consulting and business consulting engagements with clients.
Co-ordinate with other team members to respond to client requests or queries.
Maintain consistency, quality and timeous delivery of all client communications (incl. all SLA delivery,
general requests and queries, and ad-hoc projects.)
Present on behalf of the business at client presentations (when requested).
Client service administration
Contribute to development of an overall client service strategy for the business.
Develop a service strategy for an assigned portfolio of clients.
Collate, update and manage a database (CRM) for all clients, which includes maintaining and tracking a
history of interactions with all clients (both formal and informal).
Contribute to the planning of client events.
Provide input into the development of all marketing material.
Take a role in the development and maintenance of a product specific knowledge base.
Identify and implement improvements to processes to ensure that our clients receive an exceptional ‘client
service experience.’
Ensure up-to-date SLAs are maintained with all clients and manage delivery of services in accordance with
SLA’s.
Skills and Qualifications
Qualification in Financial Services (e.g., BCom, B.BusSc).
5+ years’ experience working in a client service role in the financial services industry.
Experience with delivering exceptional levels of client service in a financial services environment.
Proven ability to develop, build and maintain effective relationships with clients, as well as other internal
and external stakeholders.
Proven ability to present to larger audiences effectively and engage the audience.
A good listener, someone who reads people and an audience well (and adapts their style and response
accordingly)
Proven ability to write effectively, both in the normal course of business as well as more formal writing in
the form of articles, investment commentaries, etc.
Demonstrated ability to influence others, create alignment, generate commitment to goals, and energise
and inspire others to action.
Ability to work independently, with a high degree of initiative, discretion and ‘tact
