Our client is an established organisation which is focused on the manufacture and distribution of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) based in Epping Industrial area in Cape Town.

Job Overview

This role would suit a very experienced, mature and competent Bookkeeper who is happy to fulfil a varied role in a small dynamic client-centric working environment. The incumbent will report to the Financial Manager and assist with the full financial function of the business and some client relationship management aspects of the business, as well as fulfil certain payroll administrative and HR functions. This role currently incorporates four separate legal entities. In addition, ad hoc responsibilities will also be added from time to time.

Responsibilities and Duties

The role will encompass the following responsibilities and duties:

  • Process and reconcile company bank accounts
  • Calculate company rebates and sales commissions
  • Assist with client queries and client relationship management.
  • Review the various companies’ trial balances, ledger accounts and reconciliations and investigate any issues
  • Process monthly journals
  • Assist with monthly limited and annual complete stock counts
  • Review and process employee expense claims
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts for various stakeholders
  • Load payments for weekly EFT’s and monthly suppliers
  • Submit EOI documentation for foreign payments
  • Investigate customer credit note requests where required
  • Prepare monthly submissions for VAT and PAYE
  • Assist with the annual budgeting process
  • Maintain the various fixed asset registers
  • Assist with certain payroll and HR administrative functions for the various entities

Qualifications and requirements

The person must have previous experience in a similar role, preferably within the FMCG industry.

  • A substantial and relevant tertiary education Iin Accounting and/or Bookkeeping
  • Minimum 10 years’ work experience in advanced bookkeeping supporting a Financial Manager CA(SA)
  • A demonstrable stable employment track record
  • A reliable and mature attitude to the job responsibilities and client relationships
  • At least 3 years’ exposure to a customer services environment
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Solid administrative skills, deadline driven and able to cope with pressure
  • Able to take initiative and work without supervision
  • Integrity and adhering to principles and values
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working with Pastel Partner and Pastel Payroll will be advantageous
  • Office-based role (Own transport)
